Old Fashioned Apple Pie Recipe

Recipe Ingredients

3 double crusts for 9-inch pans Pie crust, prepared
21 cups (81.5 oz.) Thinly sliced, cored, peeled baking apples
3 cups (2.55 oz.) SPLENDA® No Calorie Sweetener, Granulated
½ cup (2.5 oz.) Cornstarch
1 ¼ teaspoons (0.25 oz.) Cinnamon
¾ teaspoon (0.05 oz.) Nutmeg
3/8 teaspoon (0.1 oz.) Salt

Preparation

Preheat oven to 425°F. Line 9-inch pie pans with prepared crust dough.

Place fruit into a large mixing bowl and set aside.

Combine SPLENDA Granulated Sweetener, cornstarch, cinnamon, nutmeg and salt in a small bowl. Sprinkle mixture over fruit and toss. Spoon the fruit mixture into pie crusts.

Cover filled pie with another crust. Seal edges, trim and crimp. Cut small openings in the top crust to vent.

Bake for 40-50 minutes or until the top crust is golden. Serve warm or chilled.

Note

Variations

Old Fashioned Pear Cranberry Pie: Use 18 cups (77 oz.) sliced, cored, peeled pears and 3 cups (11.6 oz.) cranberries.

Old fashioned Strawberry Rhubarb Pie: Use 12 cups (59 oz.) quartered strawberries and 9 cups (36 oz.) sliced rhubarb. Increase cornstarch to ½ cup + 3 tablespoons (3.1 oz.).

Baking times may vary. If frozen fruit is used, baking times may increase.
