How to Take 2,000 Extra Steps a Day!

There are lots of reasons why:

1) The 2,000 extra steps don’t have to be taken all at once. They can be spread out over the whole day.

2) Kids can get extra steps from many fun things besides walking.

Ideas for kids to get more active*

Instead of…

Try…

Calling for your parents when you need them

Walking to find them

Going to the car wash

Washing the car with your parents (family)

Waiting to be asked to help

Volunteering to help around the house

Asking your parents to drive you to a friend's house

Riding a bike or walking there (when possible)

Letting your dog sit around all day

Taking your dog for a walk every day—dogs need steps, too!

Sitting on the sofa

Walking around while talking on the phone

Living in a messy room

Putting on music and dancing while you clean your room

Heading straight to your favorite store

Walking two laps around the mall before you begin to shop

Think footsteps…anytime, anywhere!
